In the UK a vehicle has its first MOT when it's three years old, and once every year after that. Your vehicle requires a valid MOT certificate by law and as part of the MOT test your vehicle will be checked to make sure that it meets the road safety and environmental standards set out by the DVSA.
If your vehicle fails its MOT one of our service advisors will call you to make you aware of the reasons for the failure, they will then provide you with a quote for the needed repairs and you will be given the option as to whether to wish to approve or decline the work.
If you do choose to approve the work the garage will complete the needed repairs before putting your vehicle back through for an MOT test and once the MOT has been passed and payment has been made in full the vehicle will be returned back to your chosen address.
Dangerous Defects
If your vehicle fails with a dangerous defect, under the new MOT test regulations, your vehicle will no longer be able to be driven on public roads in England, Scotland or Wales unless corrective work is undertaken.
If the defects remain unfixed, legally the vehicle may not be driven from the test centre either by Servicing Stop or by the customer or any third party. The vehicle may be collected via a recovery service arranged either privately or via Servicing Stop, at a cost to be incurred by the customer.
Major Defects
A vehicle with defects classified as 'major' will only be delivered at the discretion of the garage; Servicing Stop may ask the vehicle owner to either collect or arrange for the vehicle to be recovered.
If my vehicle fails its MOT, will it be re-tested for free?
Yes, whether you choose to have the needed repairs completed through us or if you've decided to have the repairs conducted elsewhere, your vehicle will be re-tested free of charge, if you return to the original testing garage within 10 working days of the MOT failure certificate date.
Please Note: Our free vehicle collection and delivery service is not included for MOT retesting so you would need to arrange to drop off and collect the vehicle yourself from the garage.
What happens if my vehicle passes its MOT?
If your vehicle passes its MOT test you will get an MOT pass certificate from the test centre, which will be recorded on the MOT database. You might also get a list of ‘minor’ or ‘advisory’ problems to monitor or fix in the future.
